I am a certified nurse midwife and have worked in women’s healthcare for nearly ten years. Before attending nursing and midwifery school at the University of Washington in Seattle, I worked in women’s health clinics in both Austin and in Louisiana. I’ve always been fascinated by pregnancy and birth. Because my mother had five unmedicated births, I believed from an early age that birth was a normal process that required minimal intervention. I became a midwife because I want to support women throughout pregnancy and birth in a way that empowers them and encourages them to participate actively in their care.
My midwifery training included both home and hospital birth. For me, the birthing center is the best of both worlds. I love working with women and their families in such a relaxed environment. I’m honored to share in the experience of welcoming each new little one to the world, and I hope to welcome many more over the years at Austin Area Birthing Center.
