Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is now more popular than ever, and paired with a cardiovascular plan, such as walking, will help you keep your body flexible and in shape during pregnancy. At Austin Area Birthing Center, prenatal yoga is an important part of the free package of benefits you receive for birthing with us.

Practice of Prenatal Yoga

The ancient practice of yoga will improve your circulation and balance, tone muscles, and keep you limber while having a minimal impact on your joints. At AABC, you’re invited to breathe, relax, and stretch with other mothers expecting their newest addition.  This is a time for you to prepare your mind, body, and spirit for the physical demands and challenge of labor and birth. Beyond birth, you’ll find that prenatal yoga eases your recovery path and helps you prepare for the care of your infant.

DeLora Frederickson, RYT500

DeLora Frederickson, RYT500, has been serving women in the Austin birthing communities over the last 10 years.  She is a Birthing from Within Doula, a certified pre & postnatal yoga teacher with OmMama, and a pelvic floor specialist through Leslie Howard.  DeLora also teaches BabyLove and Toddler Love classes at AABC South and has been with Austin Area Birthing Center for four years.

Sarah Fangsrud, RYT500

Sarah Fangsrud, RYT500 began teaching yoga in 2007 under the tutelage of renowned master yogi Sri Dharma Mittra. In Sarah’s prenatal and postnatal yoga classes, she creates a safe space for women to bond with their baby, connect with themselves, and feel the support and strength of the AABC community surrounding them. You will learn to utilize your breath in order to focus and let go of fear, you will stretch sore muscles and build strength in weak ones, and you will practice relaxation. These tools will aid you in your pregnancy, your labor and birth, and finally as a parent. Sarah is honored to be teaching prenatal, postnatal and Toddler Love classes at AABC North.

Kelsey Nunez, RYT200

Kelsey Nunez, RYT200, has been a yoga instructor since 2004. She got her prenatal/postnatal yoga training from Leslie Lytle in the summer of 2009. Fusing her previous trainings wither her prenatal training, her classes are invigorating and challenging but also mindful and meditative. She loves inviting women to explore the new shape of her body, infusing classes with tools for labor and birthing, and also creating a space where women feel heard and feel supported.

Deanna Velazquez, RYT500

Deanna is a 500 RYT and PRYT certified through the Yoga Alliance with a history of leading group fitness classes and personal training for over 15 years. She is the CenteringPregnancy Director, a Doula and Certified Breastfeeding Educator. As a prenatal and postnatal yoga instructor, Deanna encourages physical and spiritual grown and integrates this into her classes in a fun, dynamic way. Her focus is working with women and strongly believes empowering and educating women will change the world.

Jessica Stephens, RYT200

Jessica has been teaching yoga for over five years, and her teaching styles include Hatha for beginners, Hatha Flow, Yin, Prenatal and Postnatal. She has a 200 hour Hatha Certification and 85 hour Prenatal certification. She has practiced postnatal extensively with her two daughters, and her daughter, Layla, was born in 2014 at the North Austin Area Birthing Center.

It is the peace and joy of yoga that Jessica loves to share with her students. Working with moms has been a treat, and she loves to guide her prenatal and postnatal mamas to practice self-care through simple yoga practices that can be taken off the mats and into their lives.

Jessica received her 200 hour certification in Hatha Yoga from Yoga Yoga in 2010, and she completed her 85 hour prenatal training in 2014, while she was pregnant with Layla. She is currently working on her 500 hour certification.

A published writer, Stacy has authored articles on prenatal yoga, massage for labor, and infant massage. She’s been interviewed by the news in film and written segments throughout the state of Texas, based on her work with prenatal/ postpartum yoga, infant massage, yoga and the health care system, and bringing yoga to Williamson County.

Mercedes Cooper, CYT
